Certified Financial Planner

A retirement investment decision may start with what is happening in the markets. It also depends on when the money may be needed and what the retirement plan must support.

Mike Giblin helps clients evaluate investment and retirement-income choices within the broader financial plan.

How Did Mike Move From Trading to Financial Planning?

Mike became interested in the stock market while growing up in central New Jersey. That interest grew during an internship while he attended The College of William & Mary.

After graduating, Mike worked on Wall Street as a trader for more than a decade. He later earned a master’s degree in economics from New York University.

His experience gave him a technical understanding of markets. Over time, he decided he wanted to work directly with people and the financial decisions affecting their lives.

After moving to Wilmington with his wife, Bonnie, Mike shifted into personal financial planning. He earned CFP® certification and studied financial transitions through the Certified Financial Transitionist® program.

How Does Teaching Shape Mike’s Work?

Mike taught Investments in the CFP® curriculum at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

He has also mentored business students, served on nonprofit boards, and volunteered as a coach. Those roles reflect the patience and continued learning he brings to his work with clients.

What Does Mike Enjoy Outside of Work?

Mike and Bonnie have two children, Daniel and Maggie. He enjoys watching them learn, pursue their interests, and grow.

The family attends St. Therese Church in Wrightsville Beach. Mike also remains active in the Wilmington community.
